Rolex, a privately owned watch manufacturing brand, was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis. Rolex uses latest technology in manufacturing its products. In 1945, it launched its first watch, embracing a feature of automatic date change on the dial. Its first water resisting series, celebrated as Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner, was introduced in 1953. Another Rolex famous watch, acknowledged as GMT Master, was introduced in 1954, which displays two time zones straight away. Rolex holds the honor of being first watch manufacturer to receive the Chronometer Certificate.
Mechanical means: Rolex started using machines for manufacturing watches instead of manual operations and manufactured its first automated watch in 1931, which displayed accurate time.
Waterproof: One of the founders conducted a test on a watch, holding the ability to resist water by connecting the watch with a submarine, which was to dive in Mariana Trench. The test was a total success and Rolex got a telegram, “Am happy to confirm that even at 11,000 meters your watch is as precise as on the surface. Best regards, Jacques Piccard”.
Quartz: The Beta 21 technology was developed by 17 watch manufacturers, Rolex and 16 more Swiss watch companies, used in Rolex Quartz in 5100. Then Rolex analyzed and designed it for further five years and developed “clean slate” technology, now being used in Oyster Quartz Collection.
Technology Used In Design
Rolex claims that one of its best models Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller Deepsea can resist water even if under 3900 meters of water. It has the thickest layer of sapphire crystal and great performing ring, which is nitrogen-alloy that can bear intense pressures. Its’ case back is made up of very highly resisting metal known as titanium-alloy that can be twisted a little under high pressures, but can come back to its original position too.
